STAFF PICKS: Musical Theatre with Corrie Yadon

Corrie Yadon is the Patron Experience Manager at Seattle Opera. You likely know her from McCaw Hall where she acts as our House Manager and is never seen without a fabulous hat!

She went to school for Music Theatre and would CRUSH at pub trivia with this topic. Here is Corrie's list of things keeping her happy and singing along while working from home.

  • Marie’s Crisis Facebook Group. If you don't know Marie’s Crisis, then you are missing out! It's an NYC institution: A West Village dive located in the basement of where Thomas Payne wrote Crisis, this diamond in the very rough has a piano and all your friends new and old singing show tunes. Marie's Crisis offers daily live streams from their pianists' living rooms. Song after song allows you to be the star from your living room. Don’t forget to tip you pianist via Venmo!

  • Peter Pan Goes Wrong from the BBC.

  • Daily 8 Count. While geared toward the high school set, this is a great way to get your brain and blood going. Brian (a college friend) gives you 8-16 counts of choreography each weekday, and by Friday, you had the start of a combo and are working at picking up new steps.

  • The National Theatre’s YouTube Channel

  • #SunshineSongs. Laura Benanti started this campaign on Instagram. With high school theatre productions being cancelled around the country, Laura sent out an Instagram message asking kids to send her videos of them performing the songs, dance numbers, monologues, and more to her and that she would watch them. It went viral in music theatre circles, and you can catch the next wave of Broadway stars crushing it in rehearsal videos. I cry while watching these kids leave it all in the rehearsal space. They are magical.

  • Musicals to listen to:

  • Canine Companions Puppy Cam. Not music theatre related, but 100% helpful while working and needing a short break. The whole Audience Services Department goes here when we need a break. I can’t remember who started it, but I am so glad they did!

We hope this list gets you dancing and brings a smile to your face!
